Velvet is a first-generation graduate. She holds a BS in Workforce, Training, and Development from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Velvet is an active member of the NAACP. She sits on the Board of Directors for Georgia Diabetes Coalition. She is the Community Liaison for non-profit church organization. She is a licensed Life & Health insurance agent. She has over 20 years of experience working in the community. She has worked on food and shelter campaigns, education, and work readiness for adults and children. Her core mission is helping low-income families have access to education, healthcare, and food.
